A Note From Cris…

In my adult life I have felt a deep connection to Mother Earth, to nature and to sunshine. It may be the leo in me. And while I have always felt this connection, I can get wrapped up in life and go a few days with forgetting to be conscious and ask Mother Earth for support.

See, what I believe and I’m almost certain you have heard this before we are stewards of this land. Generations and generations of our ancestors have been living on the land, fully supported and taking care of pachamama.

That’s one of the things that has been lost over the centuries is our connection to earth. We live in cities where there is little grass, we are busy in our day to day life and forget to pause outside. We are living in larger communities now that we commute and travel farther than before. The experience of  walking outside to go from one place to another has been replaced with stressful traffic, loud car stereos and eating in the car as we drive from one place to another.

When I started the grounding Journey podcast I was struggling with the name for the podcast, While I knew my purpose and intention was to connect with other souls on a similar journey as mine, I didn’t know how to convey that, how with the name to share my intention and I found this definition on huffpost.com.

Grounding is an exercise that connects you energetically to the earth. It allows you to be more authentically in your body, in the present moment and receive nourishing energy. Grounding allows your body to use all your talents and gifts. Know their value in the world and give birth to your visions and goals.

My body continues to give me a full physical Hell Yes when I read that definition many years later.

So while life has changed and evolved for all of us. We can honor the pst traditions of our ancestors, we can’t go back in time. We live in cities. We can’t walk everywhere. We can do little things each day to connect to the energy of Mother Earth. We can treat her with love and appreciation, by remembering. Remembering to ask her for support. Remembering to thank her and ground ourselves.

Remember the scene in Pretty woman where Richard Gere is stressed with the merger and being grumpy and she makes him take time to have lunch in a tiny little square of grass. WHile he’s on the phone she takes his shoes and socks off and has him walk around in a patch of grass maybe 3 ft by 3 ft?

Sometimes that little can do it. If the weather is nice be conscious to take a few moments each day and go stand barefoot on the earth. Feel the sun on your face and visualize the energy from Mother Earth entering your body with each breath.

One of my favorite things to do when there is a gentle rain outside is go stand outside in it. I remove as much of my clothes as the weather permits (thankfully our entire yard is privacy fenced in) and feel the rain on my skin. Feel the earth below my feet. It only takes 3 mins to recenter your entire energy.

Maybe you live in an apartment or the weather doesn’t allow you to get outside and connect with the earth as often as you might like. That’s ok, bring Mother Nature inside to you. Place crystals on your desk, beside your bed. If you haven’t done it yet, I encourage you to do it this week!

Add flowers or house plants to your home. I love my orchids, and know it takes lots of love to care for them. If you don’t have a green thumb there are lots of low light houseplants you can add to your space. Visit your local garden center or home store to see.

Or add a statue or something special to your altar or desk that reminds you to stay grounded and to ask Mother earth for support.

As part of connecting this month I encourage you to find ways that will keep you grounded and connected to mother earth.

I have a special meditation for you that you can use as a guided meditation or once you’ve done it a few times you’ll be able to do it regularly when you need to ground yourself.
